Setting the sensitivity of the microphone to the right level is important to ensure that your voice is clear and understandable to those you call. Set it too low and other may struggle to hear you; set it too high and you may begin to hear a distracting and unwanted echo.

Setting the microphone sensitivity when connected to a deskphone
On the back of DW and D 10 base stations, and on the underside of SD base stations, you will find a small white dial marked 'Mic.Vol.'. This dial regulates the strength of the microphone - a higher setting will increase the volume of your voice, and a lower settings will make your voice softer.
For most users, the optimal setting lies between 3 and 6. Please be aware that increasing the microphone sensitivity too high may result in an echo being heard.
By default, the microphone volume control is set to position 4. This setting is suitable for most telephones.
- Make a call to someone who will help you find the correct sensitivity setting for your microphone.
- Turn the microphone volume control so that the other party can hear you at a comfortable level.
Setting the microphone sensitivity when connected to a softphone on a PC
When your base station is connected to a PC so that you can use your headset with a softphone or other communications application, then the controls which regulate the sensitivity of the microphone are passed to the computer.
As an example, if you are using the headset with a Windows computer, the microphone sensitivity can be found within the 'Recording devices' tab of the 'Sound' settings. Select 'Properties' for the EPOS device and then under the 'Levels' tab you can set the sensitivity to a value between 0 and 100.
Some softphone applications will also allow you to set the sensitivity from within the application. Please check the user guide for your softphone to see if this is possible.
Please note that when connected via USB, the changing the microphone sensitivity dial will have no effect until you switch back to deskphone mode (on dual connectivity models).
If you are using the D 10 USB or D 10 USB ML, then the dial on the base station will not regulate microphone sensitivity at all, but will instead regulate the volume of the incoming call alert tone, if this setting is engaged.
